Establishing Professional Contacts and Expanding Resources

Part 1:  For my personal contacts I found several blogs that were created by Early Childhood teachers that are teaching outside of the United States.  I chose a few that created blogs that were interesting and up to date.  I contacted them and I am still waiting to hear back.  Also, one of my former Pre-K students is currently teaching in Yap.  It is a small Island and therefore she doesn’t check her email every day.  I am really hoping to be able to talk with her.  I am awaiting her reply.  I would be very excited to learn from these professionals and hope that I don’t have to choose option 2.  Eagerly waiting!

Part 2:  For my website I chose Zero to Three.  http://www.zerotothree.org/ When I was a center director most of the challenges came from the infant and toddler rooms.  At the time I did not know about this web site and it seemed that there was not much information or curriculum suggestions available for this age group.  I signed up for the News Letter and I am going to subscribe to their journal as well.  I currently supervise and act as a resource person for 13 Early Childhood programs.  I know that I will be able to pass along information that I gather from this site.

  1. That's wonderful that one of your former Pre-K students is teaching currently, and in Yap! You must have inspired her, I hope you are able to maintain contact with her. I'm sure she has many interesting stories and perspectives. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I never heard of the place called Yap. Its great that you have connections in other places to learn about how their issues and trends are different from where you live or other countries. I believe that teaching infants and toddlers is the most challenging because we are setting them up to be ready for primary school and what is expected out of them later in their years of school. It seems like you have good resources that is going to help you learn and give your fellow classmates some good information and insights. - Brittany

  3. Lori,
It must be great to know that a former pre-k student of yours is now exploring the world and teaching in Yap. She would definitely make a great contact; and I agree, zerotothree is a great website for educational resource. I have visited the site myself for writing references.

  4. Hello Lori! Wow! it must feel amazing to see the impact that you have had on your student. I am not familiar with the Yap program. Could explain it in detail for me? I too have not received a reply from my 2 professionals yet. I sure hope that I receive a reply by mid-week. I am very eager to learn more about South Africa and North America. It feels pretty cool to possibly have connections to other early care programs within the country. Well good luck with your replies!!
