*       My Mom-

*       My favorite saying after she came home from the hospital where she worked:

*       “Wait, you can’t hug me yet, I have germs-First let me get out of my monkey suit!”

*       My mom and dad divorced when I was 2 years old.  She raised my sister and I by herself.  She was able to go on government assistance so she could go to school and get her nursing degree.  This proved to be the best decision that she could make because it enabled her to support us financially.  I always knew she loved me and totally accepted me for who I was and she still continues to influence my life.  I have the same hard work ethic that she has and the same stubborn determination.  We stay connected on a weekly basis and she has shown me the value of sacrificial love.  She has given all of herself to the betterment of her children and others.

*       My Step Dad

*       My dad married my mom when I was 9 years old and legally adopted me giving me his name.  He modeled what it means to work hard by starting at minimum wage and working his way up to supervisor.  He does not have a formal education but has always found work by starting his own businesses.  He currently has his own handy man business.  He can fix anything and reads a lot and therefore is very intelligent.  We did not get along very well, but he has a very forgiving spirit and we have mended up our differences.  Although we were not close, I learned how to work hard and how to be a good steward.  These characteristics helped me when I was managing my own child care center.

*       My Grandmother

*       Favorite saying “Waste not want not”

*       My grandmother is now deceased.  She was a major influence in my life because she took care of us when my mom was in school and working.  She was a very stern and disciplined woman.  She made me clean up after myself and taught me responsibility.  Although she was not very affectionate, she did verbally tell me that she loved me and in my heart I knew that she did.  One of the biggest legacy’s she left me is her faith.  Every morning she would read her bible.  Her faithfulness and dependence on faith still remains a part of my life to this day.

*       My Aunt

Although I never lived near my Aunt, she stayed involved in my life through phone calls and yearly visits.  She taught kindergarten for 30 years and when I was considering college she encouraged me to go into education and allowed me to come into her classroom to observe.  She also gave me some of her literature books, and they are a treasure to me to this day.

 Brother

Brother.Kind.generouse.innocent.fisherman.loving.Brother

Favorite saying:  “Hi Lori, This is your brother, Brain Seeley”

My younger brother has special needs which has affected me greatly and given me passion for those that are mistreated within the educational system.

I have been married for 25 years and I have two children, Zachary age 22 and Chelsea, age 19.  Together we have created a strong family unit based on a strong faith and value in closeness.  We have started new traditions and values that were lacking in our own childhoods and are passing on both old and new legacy’s.

  1. How lovely to hear how these people have impacted your life! I can tell by the way you talk about them that they hold special places in your heart. It is important to have those people who can challenge you to grow in ways you otherwise wouldn't. Thanks for sharing!
